Parking consultation - the impact of Westfield shopping centre
On 30th October 2008 Westfield shopping centre opened in Shepherd's Bush/White City. It is the largest inner city shopping centre in Europe and while it has brought a lot of benefits to the area and local people, it has had a significant impact on parking.
Following the opening of the shopping centre, residents in the area found it extremely difficult to park on their own street, let alone near their property. For this reason the Council instigated parking controls on a Sunday in the areas closest to Westfield, as this was the day when the most severe parking problems were occuring. These measures have so far proved successful in encouraging people into the Westfield carpark and away from local streets.
We now want to look for a more permanent solution to your parking problems. The Sunday controls were implemented in the streets closest to Westfield only, but we are aware the problems are occuring further afield as well. For this reason we are carrying out an initial consultation with all residents of controlled parking zones B, C, CC, G, J, K and O and some streets of N.
By finding out what the problems are and where they are occuring, we will be able to devise a solution that addresses the issue as a whole, to avoid simply shifting the problem from one street to another.
The following questionnaire asks for your views on parking in your street. Please complete it by Monday 16th February. A hard copy will also be sent to you in the post.
Thank you for taking an interest in parking in your area.
