This consultation started on 29/10/2007 and ended on 3/12/2007
The following reports are available:
INTRODUCTION
The Council has secured funding from Transport for London (TfL) to introduce a 20mph zone in the area bounded by Uxbridge Road to the north, Coningham Road to the east, Goldhawk Road to the south and Lime Grove to the east. Thornfield Road runs through the middle of the zone.
WHY?
Within this area there have been 10 personal injury accidents from 1 March 2003 to 28 February 2006. Two of these accidents were of a serious nature. Research shows that 20mph zones can reduce the risk of personal injury accidents by up to 75%.
20MPH ZONES
The speed limit on the streets within the zone will be reduced from 30mph to 20mph. A reduced speed limit has many benefits including improving road safety for the most vulnerable road users, pedestrians and cyclists, reduced exhaust emissions and can discourage through traffic.
PROPOSALS
The proposed traffic calming, as detailed in the map, is designed to complement the existing features and ensure compliance with the legal requirements of introducing a 20mph speed limit. Speed cushions are effective method of traffic calming and have been successfully used in other 20mph zones within the borough. They are self-enforceable, achieve a measurable speed reduction especially along one way streets and do not inhibit cycle or essential emergency vehicle movement. The proposed measure will not have any negative effects on parking in the area. The zone will be clearly signed and marked to warn drivers of entering a residential area. In addition, the existing barriers along Thornfield Road will be aesthetically improved with additional lighting installed.
TIMESCALE
Depending on the results of this consultation and council approval it is anticipated that implementation of the scheme would begin in early 2008. The work will be phased throughout the zone over a number of weeks to minimise disruption.
