MINFORD GARDENS - ONE WAY SECTION BETWEEN ROCKLEY ROAD AND SINCLAIR GARDENS -
MAKING IT TWO-WAY?
As part of the Brook Green neighbourhood transport improvement programme, which is funded by Transport for London, the Council is reviewing the traffic management and calming arrangements in the area. Our aim is to improve road safety, improve the environment by reducing street clutter, planting more trees, encouraging walking and cycling, providing car club parking spaces and discouraging rat running through the area. We intend to develop plans for consultation later this year, but there is one issue on which I would like your views before we design the plans.
Minford Road is two-way between Shepherd's Bush Road and Rockley Road and one way, westbound, between Rockley Road and Sinclair Gardens. It has been brought to our attention that road users occasionally ignore ‘no entry’ signs at the junction of Minford Gardens and Rockley Road and drive in the wrong direction. A number of conflicting situations has been reported, as well as requests that certain alterations to the junction are made to try and prevent this. In addition to this, two personal injury accidents have occurred at the junction of Rockley Road with Minford Gardens between 2007-2009 and one personal injury accident within the one way section of Minford Gardens.
One way systems can be inconvenient for residents as they restrict access to their properties. Also, the speed of vehicles travelling along one way roads tends to be higher, which increases hazards and encourage more rat-running traffic.
Minford Gardens is wide enough to support two-way traffic. By allowing traffic to travel in both directions, drivers would be given more options when choosing a route and residents would benefit from an additional route when accessing their properties. This would lead to traffic being more evenly spread in the area, thereby reducing the traffic volume on some roads and potentially avoiding manoeuvres that are deemed to be dangerous. A number of signs that motorists may find confusing at this junction would also be reduced. Two-way working is also more convenient for cyclists.
We would therefore like to receive your views on whether Minford Gardens (between Rockley Road and Sinclair Gardens) should revert to two-way or be kept as one way.
