The London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham has just under a thousand litter bins. We currently have several different bin types and would like to streamline and improve the appearance, functionality and litter capture of our bins by introducing a replacement scheme for the future. The views and opinions of our residents, local groups, stakeholders, employees, businesses, and borough's visitors will help us to choose the right way forward.
The Bin Trial
We are currently looking at two, new, very different bins and will be running a short trial to measure the litter capture, usability of the bins and our service providers will monitor changes to the street surroundings. Residents Services would like to thank you for participating in the bin trial, using the litter bins and sharing your feedback at the beginning of this consultation process.
The Bins
The Hooped Bin – Trial location Wood Lane.
This is a user friendly model that has been in sucessful use in public areas and in underground stations. It is a simple and safe bag holder design for the use of clear plastic bags.
The Cleverbin – Trial location Hammersmith Broadway and Fulham Palace Road.
A recent design that has been developed for night-time litter capture. Based on a popular bin model it is accessorized with back lit solar panels which charges energy to run a GPS sensor for bin mapping and illuminates the bins by night.
We have identified that these two models may offer value for money and will help to streamline the street services we provide. As this is a trial no decision has been taken as to whether either of the above bins will be chosen. There is a space for comments at the end of the questionnaire that will allow you to provide further details and suggestions for finding a sustainable solution to our boroughs litter bins.
