Helping older and disabled people live at home through advice, adaptations and improvements

Overview

This consultation seeks views on the proposed commissioning of home improvement agency services across the West of England area.  These are housing-related services that help older and disabled people live independently and safely in their own home.  Home improvement agencies provide information and advice, carry out minor repairs and help people organise larger repairs or adaptations.  The commissioning of a single provider will help improve the quality of services that people receive and get better value for money.

It is also proposed that independent living centre services are included in this contract.  These centres can make daily life easier for people with disabilities by offering a range of products and equipment for demonstration and testing.

Why we are consulting

We are consulting so that stakeholder views can shape and influence the tender specification, due to be sent out in February 2012, and subsequent service delivery.

What happens next

Your feedback will help shape the tender document.  This will be sent to provider organisations who wish to bid for the home improvement agency contract setting out the volume and types of services required.  This means that your views will influence the way that services are delivered and monitored in future.
